INTRODUCTIONS
One way to write a strong introduction is to use the reverse-triangle method. The shape of your introduction should model the shape of an upside-down triangle. Remember, this does not mean that the length of your sentences should form an upside-down triangle, but that the content and information of the paragraph should model the shape.
Follow this pattern!
Start with a really broad general statement about your topic.
Get a little more specific.
Say something even more specific.
State your thesis- the "point" of your essay!

Athletes need to be skilled to excel. In particular, basketball players must be athletically gifted to stand out on the court. Basketball players need to not only run fast and shoot accurately, but they must also be able to anticipate and defend against the movements of the opposing team. Throughout the years, many talented stars have played for the Boston Celtics. Of all former and current Celtics, Bill Russell is the best because of his shot-blocking rebounds, and superior defensive moves.
