Who vs. Whom
Remember to use the he/him method when struggling with which word to use.
He = who
Him = whom
Ex: Who/Whom wrote the letter? He wrote the letter therefore, who is correct.
Ex: For who/whom should I vote? One would ask their self: should I vote for him? Therefore, whom is correct.
Who:
- Who is a pronount that replaces the subject of a question.
- Who gave this to you?
- Who told you?
- Who will attend?
- Who can also be used in statements, replacing the subject.
- This is who told me.
- Any who has one should bring it.
- Sally is the girl who ran today.
Whom:
- Whom is also a pronoun, but it replaces the object of a question.
- Whom is the movie based on?
- With whom were you with?
- Whom did they call?
- Whom can also be used in statements, replacing the object of a clause.
- This is the girl whom I was talking about.
- Joe is the man whom you went to the movies with.
- Always use whom after a preposition.
- Kelly is the girl with whom I am going to dinner.
- The students, one of whom is graduating this year, failed the test.
